WHAT WE COUNT

ONE DEFINITION PER NUMBER · SO EVERY READER READS IT THE SAME WAY

MEAL SERVED

One free plate, bag breakfast, or leftover portion handed to one person at one event. Our headline number. 1 meal = 1 count, logged per event by the team on site.

PRODUCE PICKUP

One person taking fresh produce or a grocery bag/box home. When groceries go out in boxes without bags, the team logs a best-count of people served and notes it.

WELLNESS SESSION

One facilitated wellness moment (mindfulness, movement, health programming) delivered at an event. Counted per session, not per participant.

SERVICE TOUCH

Meals + produce pickups + wellness sessions. The one roll-up of everything we handed to or did for a neighbor. Always at least as large as meals, because it contains them.

PEOPLE AT GATHERINGS

Estimated headcount at events, where logged. This is people in the room, not services delivered; it is never added into service touches.

EVENT

One dated occasion we hosted, co-hosted, or served at: a community meal, resident hour, giveaway, or community-hosted night. The unit every other number rolls up from.

COMMUNITY BUILT

A PLACE TO GATHER — NOT JUST A MEAL SERVED

COMMUNITY EVENTS HOSTED 4 RESIDENT & COMMUNITY-HOSTED GATHERINGS
PEOPLE GATHERED 43 ATTENDEES AT COMMUNITY EVENTS (WHERE LOGGED)
FORMATS 4 MOVIE NIGHT · OPEN MIC · APPRECIATION DINNER · KARAOKE

WHY WE COUNT · OUR THEORY OF CHANGE

EVERY NUMBER ABOVE LADDERS TO ONE OF FOUR PATHWAYS

1 · BELONGING + REDUCED ISOLATION

If residents keep showing up to welcoming, culturally rooted meals and gatherings, they build relationships and trust, and isolation drops. Measured by: events, repeat attendance, people at gatherings.

2 · RESOURCE ACCESS, WARM HANDOFFS

Trusted gatherings become the front door to partner resources: services people actually use, not flyers. Measured by: partner events, unique partners, referrals as they formalize.

3 · CIVIC VOICE + COMMUNITY POWER

Food draws the room; the room builds knowledge, confidence, and advocacy on the issues residents name. Measured by: convenings hosted and actions taken (early stage).

4 · FOOD SECURITY + STABILITY

Consistent free meals and produce reduce immediate food insecurity and anchor stabilizing routines. Measured by: meals served, produce pickups, service touches.

OPERATOR NOTES ON WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN

TOUCHES RECOUNTED 8/10/2026

The touches figure previously published (949) came from a per-event column that stopped being filled in late June, so it undercounted. Touches are now computed directly from the event log as meals + produce + wellness, on every load. The definition and the math cannot drift apart again.

GROCERIES · HOW WE COUNT BAGS

Grocery giveaways started July with WOLF. When food went out in bulk boxes without bags, the team logs a best-count of people served (e.g., 8/7: 30 bags logged). A scale for pounds-of-food tracking is on the wish list.

WELLNESS · WHY THE NUMBER IS SMALL

1 logged session so far (mindfulness at the 4/24 A Taste of West partner event). Wellness programming is early; American Heart Association nutrition classes are in conversation and would grow this line.

PARTNERS CARRY REAL WEIGHT

Chef Rashad / Saint's Smokehouse has donated meals across multiple events; WOLF now anchors grocery giveaways; EBALDC and Monique support resident hours. Worth a standing thank-you cadence and a scaling conversation.
